The Story of Martyrdom:

Although the climate was terrifying to the family of Ziyad Al Nimr, but their faith was stronger than that fear. The family of that Palestinian man and the refugees in his house were getting ready for martyrdom all the time, so they kept on their ablution and purity. They were surrounded in their house eating bread, lentils, and thyme, and pulling together to face this fierce war.

The family of Ziyad Al Nimr felt comfortable because their house was located in an area that contained no institutions of those which were targets for the Israeli bombing, therefore, they received number of their relatives in the house. In the noon of the 4th of January, some youths and children went up to the roof to breath the fresh air of winter, but the Israeli reconnaissance warplanes fired several missiles at them. `Abdul-Karim, Ibrahim, Ayah “Suhir”, their cousin Asma’, and the fiancé of their sister were killed in that terrible massacre. It was a horrible massacre for everyone saw it, especially the mothers of those boys and girls who went up to see their children turned into parts scattered on the roof of their house as well as the neighboring houses.

The mother of `Abdul-Karim says: "Allah is Sufficient for us, and how fine a trustee He is! There were no resistance, but they were just boys and girls playing of the roof. My three children were killed in one moment although they did not do anything to harm those criminals. O Allah, avenge on them, O Powerful.”

`Abdul-Karim was killed before he could pass the second prep school. Despite his low level in education, he dreamt of memorizing five parts of the Glorious Qur’an. His mother says: “I wondered a lot at his inadequacy in school, whereas his memorization of the Qur’an was accurate and fast, and he was preparing himself to memorize it all."

Although `Abdul-Karim was of dark skin, he was cheerful and beloved by all. All the neighbors bear witness to his good relations and dealings. When he heard a neighbor calling her son more than once and he did not answer, he would respond instead of her as if it was due on him to do so. The neighbor has told the mother of `Abdul-Karim that she feels the same grief and sorrow and she misses him so much.
