The Story of Martyrdom:

With the continual bombing of Tal Al-Hawa neighborhood where the seven-years-old Hosam was living, his family could not find a way out but to leave for the homes of the relatives for help. Hosam asked the permission of his mother before going out with "Al-Qulul" (small pieces of glass to play with), perhaps he could find a chance to play at his uncle's house and amusing himself after two weeks of continuous war, death, and destruction; and his mother gave him permission.

His parents did not think for a moment that they were taking the hands of their children to death. Everyone walked slowly under the sounds of missiles and warplanes until they reached the headquarters of the Palestinian Telecommunications Company. There they took a car to the house of the uncle in Al-Yarmok neighborhood —in the north of Gaza City. Everyone arrived and stayed two hours or less. Hosam asked the permission of his mother to get down with his brother and cousins to play with "Al-Qulul" which he took with him and she gave him permission. Hosam and his brother Ahmad went down to play with a group of children. Few moments passed before the F-16 warplanes could launch their missiles to assassin the Minister of Interior, Sa`id Siyam and the shrapnel of their missiles hit the bodies of many innocent people. One of those shrapnel penetrated the body of Hosam and left him martyred at once, while another piece hit the head of his father and caused him to lose memory, whereas the third broke the pelvis of his mother and his sister leaving them in bed.

Hosam was the youngest of his siblings, but he was older with his balanced behaviors, morals, and perception. He was not shy like the rest of the children. When you talked to him, he did not keep silent, but he was ready to discuss and tried to convince you with his point of view. His brother Ahmad was his spirit-twin despite the difference between them in age. He accompanied Ahmad in all his movements and when he passed away, he refused to leave him.

At school, he was from the top five students in his class. He had a sense of humor and do not leave a method for joy but he used it. His mother said after she recalled the tape of his lifetime: "Hosam was the beloved one of the house and its voice which was full of voice in the middle of the quietness that covered my three children. He often invented the comic situation to kill silence in our features after a painful accident or hearing a bad news." But he had left and the details of joy and the moments of hope and smile went with him; there were only drops of sad tears to be spilled at his death.

During the wartime, his wishes and dreams fluctuated from here to there as all youth. Sometimes he wishes that the lifetime passes quickly to become of age and avenge those who killed his family and his people, and sometimes he wishes that things are settled to complete his childhood then his youth and then go to college to study useful sciences to benefit his family and country.
