The Story of Martyrdom:

It was twelve at noon on 27th of December, 2008 when the operation of the "Melted Bullets" began on Gaza Strip through the Israeli air forces which first targeted the security headquarters from the north to the south of the Strip in several minutes. The operation killed hundred of the security service members along with hundreds of innocent people who were leading their daily life in the nearby streets.

The sixteen-years-old Mahmoud Nahlah was on his way home after he had spent his school day hastily because of the war. When he was accompanying his friend Ahmad Samy Abu Jazar in the street where their Bi'r As-Sab` Secondary School was located, the Israeli F16 warplanes launched a missile at the nearby police headquarter and the shrapnel scattered in their bodies. As a result, Ahmad died at once, whereas Mahmoud was still alive, but his injury caused him to faint and could not wake up from his coma. The doctors transferred him to be treated abroad. He went to Egypt seeking help but he could not have help because he was martyred few hours after arriving at the hospital.

Mahmoud was twelve years old. His mother, whose heart was broken for him, described him saying: "He was so special in his knowledge, morals, and religion." She was weeping when she was narrating his descriptions because he was a row example for a good and obedient son who was religious and did not miss a Salah. She kept silent for moments then she recalled the day of his injury: "At three AM, he woke up to get ready for the Arabic language test. He studied until the Dawn Salah then he went to offer Salah with his friend Ahmad Abu Jazar."

When his friends at Bi'r Sab` Secondary boys' School came to submit their condolences to his mother, they recalled his last moments when he was happy and smiling at everyone: friends and teachers. He wanted them to remember him with his smiley face. His friend `Ali Matar suggested to change their way back, but he insisted to walk on that way with his friend Ahmad who was martyred along with him by the same missile.

Mahmoud waited for the academic year to pass in order to win a reward that he promised his mother to get "a computer with higher descriptions than he had." He said to his mother on the night of his martyrdom: I want the latest computer because the one I have was out of date. She promised to buy him a new one in the beginning of the summer holiday, but the year was over and she could not accomplish her promise to Mahmoud who passed away.

Mahmoud hoped to make the dream of his mother come true and become a doctor; therefore, he exerted himself hard at school to get high grades so that he could admit to the medical school. He said to his mother: "Do not be upset, I will grow up to be a doctor and make your dream come true. However, he left before accomplishing that dream which had turned into tears in his mother's eyes because of his death and because he would not be able to achieve that dream."
