The Story of Martyrdom:

When many Gazan people left their homes due to the last war on Gaza, their hearts were still attached by their houses. However, they prevented them selves to go there lest their lives as well as the lives of their children be lost. Likewise, the young children yearned to their houses, but they could not prevent their feet to visit those houses for few minutes.

The 14-years-old Mus`ab Khidr was one of those children who went to his house, despite the danger, to check on and feed his hens. Before Mus`ab could open the door of the pen, an Israeli reconnaissance warplane aimed a missile at him causing his little body scattered over the hens' feathers. His mother said: "When I heard the news of his martyrdom, my heart has broken. He was the only one among his siblings who did not bother me. Whenever he moved during the war, I told him that I fear for you and he would reply: do not fear mother. He tried to comfort me and said jokingly: "When the bullet comes, I shall lower my head so that it will not hit me."

The mother, who received the news when she was in the house of her relatives, could not believe that Mus`ab, the middle of her five male boys, was martyred. Few minutes ago, he was with her, got his hair cut, took a shower, and went to offer the `Asr Salah then he was martyred.

Mus`ab was in the second grade of prep school. He excelled all his siblings in school and wished to join them at the university. As for the Masjid, he memorized ten parts of the Qur'an and his instructor was proud of him, so he singled him out with care and expected good for him.

His mother said: "Mus`ab used to accompany me in most of my movements. He always asked me what I need and what he can do for me. They have broken my heart because I do not have much to do but to supplicate Allah for him."

The news of Mus`ab's martyrdom was heart-breaking to all people. His married sister got out of her house in the middle of a severe danger when she heard the news of Mus`ab's martyrdom so that she could see him off. She said: "My husband was running after me while I was running to get to my family's house to see Mus`ab off." His sister added: He was so close to my mother. When we sat together, he was the only one who could lean his body against her body. When we asked him to stay away, he insisted to stick close even until few hours before his martyrdom, he hugged her strongly as if he was seeing her off."

Mus`ab insisted to visit his married sisters during the war as if he was seeing them off. Her sister commented: "He kept on visiting us unlike my siblings who felt embarrassed to visit us because we lived with the families of our husbands. The family of my husband loved him so much. He usually came to us after the end of the school day saying: I longed for your son Saleh and they would play together."

Mus`ab saved 200 shekels with his mother to buy a mobile, but he passed away before he could make that dream come true or any of his dreams.
