The Story of Martyrdom:

Ayah As-Sammuny — four years old — stood with her mother and sisters in a tent that was set up over the ruins of her home. Ayah missed a lot of things in that place, but mostly, her sister “Rizqah”, fourteen years old. That girl was like the mother for Ayah who accompanied her, day and night. She used to take care of her, bring her up, and play with her because she had left school and stayed at home for helping her mother. She took care of many tasks at home because she wanted to be a good "housewife".

Rizqah was martyred along with her brother Fares when they and their large family were the target of missiles in As-Sammuny Neighborhood east of Gaza City, whereas her brother and father were injured. Rizqah was thrown away from her mother by the power explosion of the missiles leaving her a corpse on the body of her grandmother and her body was covered in blood. Her mother said: The most difficult thing is to leave her and Fares because I could not carry her with me; we hardly bore my husband, `Abdullah, and Muhammad when they were injured.

While the mother of Rizqah was trying to treat the wounds of her husband by any piece of cloth, shells fell on them. She lifted him from among the bodies of the martyrs of As-Sammuny family, whereas her injured sons were seeking help with her, "Mom! come and take me.” However, she wished to hear the voice of Rizqah or Fares; how that could be done! She saw them torn apart by the occupation shells before her eyes!

Rizqah was very happy because of her new nightdress and new shoes. She wished that her siblings would have new things like her. She wondered during the days of war how could she protect them from the frequent bombing that were showering the Strip. Her mother said: Now, I knew that I will not be able to save any of them and I lost all souvenirs and their pictures under the rubble.

Her mother whose heart was broken for her death as well as the death of her brother said: “They burnt my heart for her and for her brother. Allah is Sufficient for us, and how fine a trustee He is! I ask Allah, the Most Generous, to take revenge of them sooner than later and to burn their hearts.”
