| The Story of Martyrdom:
On the morning of January 10, Wesam Nabhan’s mother had a feeling that her son Wesam was pretty happy in spite of the war atmosphere which had been imposed on all the people. He got up laughing, tidied himself up and put on beautiful clothes. His mother asked him why he was so happy. He answered, “I am pleased.”, then he strongly hugged and kissed her which added to her amazement. When he returned in the afternoon, she advised him to take of himself. He reassured her and went out. His mother says,” I swear I felt as if he was not walking on earth. I felt he was flying while raising his hands, then he went outside and fell martyr.”
Although his mother asked him many times not to get outside the house, Wesam insisted on taking the risk of going out to escort some of his relatives to the “Al Atatra” district. There, before his relatives reached their homes an Israeli sniper stationed on top of one of the housing towers shot Wesam in the chest, so the car stopped and Wesam’s life too.
Wesam was 17 years old, yet all those who saw and dealt with him thought he was older. Even after he was killed one of the autopsy doctors reported that he was 25. He was so tall and well built that helped show him older than his real age was. He used to associate with older generations as he was so intelligent and considerate.
All over Jabalia the name “Wesam Nabhan” was known to all. He was the youngman who used to assist his father in his own test scan laboratory. This helped Wesam get acquainted with many people with whom he was dealing in a friendly and lively spirit.
Wesam was a second year secondary student. His educational standard was good. This year, as he was approaching his final secondary stage, his mother helped him focus more on his studies at school. Wesam promised her that he would do. When she was giving him her last advice, he said to her, “Education is not everything, Mum. I swear I will make you and father proud of me.”
Two years ago, Wesam learned how to drive. It was his first talent. His mother says, “He loved driving so much. When he was getting his driving license, though he was really clever, they refused to give it to him for his young age. He also loved swimming.”
