The Story of Martyrdom:

Little Nasha’t -12- had only two bites of the dinner meal with a big crowd of his relatives who took refuge in their house during the Israeli war against Gaza. He rushed out into the street carrying in his pocket a number of “marbles” His mother had been busy cooking food for the guest, so she had not prevented him from leaving as she used to do.

Nash’at, the dark-skinned child prepared the game mechanisms, then started with a group of children to play in the street. They gracefully moved behind the “marbles” At that time a car that belonged to one of the neighbors passed. An Israeli reconnaissance plane bombarded the car with a rocket. The driver was killed at once, a shrapnel hit Nash’at -12- and his aunt’s son, Fadhl al Najar-1 ˝- who happened to be standing near Nash’at during the game. He was killed on the spot.

Nash’at was six grade primary student. He always scored high though he was often busy playing and having fun as his mother said.

His grandmother feels truly sorry for losing him and says, :”I don’t believe we could have another child like Nash’at; he was really unique. He never waited to hear my demands. He was always the first one to ask me if wanted anything from him. If he had brought some food or delicacies to me, but I refused to eat, he would persistently beg me to have even a little bit of it. He always sat beside me.” She adds, “In his last period, he was quieter than usual and acted with his brothers like a kind mother.”

Nash’at never complained of the household demands. He was always ready to go out even late at night to get what the house needed. He was bold; had not feared the night nor the dark. He dreamed of becoming a man with a remarkable and important social position, but he had left before fulfilling all that.
