The Story of Martyrdom:
Many of the deaf boys and girls of Rafah have lost a young man who was a brother and a friend to them who alleviated their difficulties; he is "Ahmad Al Halabi" twenty years old.
That boy loved the deaf very much who considered them the best of human beings and most loyal. He always tried to help them, especially if they needed him to contact others in order to be an interpreter after he had several courses in sign language and mastered it. However, their first aid and helper left them and passed away, but they did not forget him and kept on visiting his relatives since his death.
Ahmad was martyred on the 27th of December 2008, when the Israeli warplanes attacked every place in Gaza Strip. On that day, Ahmad was standing with his colleagues in front of the Vocational Training Center affiliated to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (or the UNRWA). They were waiting for the bus despite the difficult atmosphere of war, trying to reach their families.
Those students thought that the occupation missiles will not strike but the security institutions and headquarters, but the Israeli killing did not stop at that. In a minute, the Israeli reconnaissance warplanes directed a number of missiles to those students killing 12 students, among them was Ahmad.
The shock was great for the heart of Ahmad’s mother because he meant everything to her. He was the only male child she had besides seven daughters. She used to depend on him in almost everything; he was her beloved son, and the closest to her heart. She says: "He equaled ten men and I could always depend on him in all my affairs. In order to bear the responsibility, he studied engineering for two years and wished to be graduated from school to help his humble family in all its life affairs.
His mother says: "He filled the house with fun and joy even in the last of day of his life. He was affectionate, kind, and of good morals. He treated all his sisters with affection and love. He also served them to make them feel that he is capable of bearing their responsibility.
His death was heavy for the heart of his mother where she could not leave the house after his death. She says: "Seven months had passed and I could not leave the house because I cannot go out for this world without Ahmad. Allah is Sufficient for me and how a fine Trustee He is! They took everything from me."
