Story of Martyrdom:
The 5th of the last January will remain hard for the memories of the young children of Al Sammuny family. Those were the most affected by the massacre which the Israeli occupation forces decided to commit against the unarmed civilians, when it kept them in one house then started to fire missiles and bullets at them to find themselves and their parents between injured and martyrs.
In the massacre, Mr. `Atiyyah Al Sammuny was martyred and when his son Ahmad — 4 years old — ran towards him, he joined him when an Israeli sniper shot him. He fell dead and his blood was mixed with the blood of his father, and the same scene was repeated with the two and half years-old `Azzah.
The beginning of the story was on the evening of the 4th of January 2009, when a number of Wa’il Al Sammuny’s relatives went to his home seeking security from the shells of occupation. However, the tragedy worsened when the occupation forces asked everyone in the area to go to Wa’il’s house. Among them was `Azzah and the rest of her family, who gathered in large numbers in that house; and without warning, the Israeli forces showered them with shells and bullets.
When `Azzah saw her father Salah Al Sammuny was injured in the same location where she was, she ran towards him crying of fear and her tongue which did not use to form sentences said "Papa Papa blood .. blood." As soon as she reached him a second shell was fired on the place. The situation was very painful, especially for the children of Salah who felt a great sin because they did not prevent `Azzah from going to her father and because they could not protect her from the successive shells that were falling on, but she survived miraculously along with dozens of Al Sammuny’s family who were killed in the massacre.
Although she did not live more than two and a half years, the memories of `Azzah are numerous and the tongues of those who loved her, the first of them was her father, failed to count these memories. She was his only daughter whom he loved by all and filled the house with her laughs, day and night. He remembers her smile that shined everyday in the morning and he spells tears when he remembers his little girl who used to play with him. She used to hide behind the columns of the house and asking her father to search for her saying: “Where is `Azzah, father?” When a guest comes to their house, `Azzah was the medium between the guest and her mother to facilitate hospitality.
When Ahmad was injured, he subjected to several serious operations and despite his critical condition, he asked to see `Azzah even if she was in Paradise or at least go to see her. After `Azzah had gone, her mother kept supplicating Allah to grant her another daughter to replace `Azzah and it was as she wanted. Her mother said in a terrible psychological condition: “Allah is Sufficient for us, and how fine a trustee He is! What did `Azzah do for them to kill her in such a savage way?”
`Azzah was martyred, but she was not the only one in the family. She took with her her grandfather, grandmother, and many of her cousins in that massacre. The father does not have anything to do but to say: “Allah is Sufficient for us, and how fine a trustee He is!”
