| The Story of Martyrdom:
12 hours after the martyrdom of Muhammad Amin Hijjy, under the barrels of guns his wife had to leave her house which was demolished later and run away with her children. Meanwhile, she was holding little Shahd in her hands, who was an obvious and a near target for an Israeli sniper who enjoyed killing a child in the hands of her frightened mother.
The young child has been transferred to Al Nusayrat Hospital and in the intensive care room, she was martyred after two hours of bleeding.
The mother of Shahd who has lost her husband and her child overnight, her house was demolished, and her hand was injured. She says to us: I cannot believe that I have lost my beautiful child Shahd. They killed her while I was carrying her between my arms; the bullet came in from her chest and came out from her back. They could kill me but they left me alive to feel the agony and pain of losing a child. Allah is Sufficient for us, and how fine a trustee He is!
Shahd was one of the four children of Muhammad Haji (three girls and a boy) who gained much love and care from her mother since she was born three years after the birth of her sister. Her grandmother says: “The mother of Shahd used to love her and play with her, therefore she was so much attached to her. She was attractive and everyone loved her. I remember how did her mother brought her during the war to calm her down because she was afraid of the shelling and missile sounds. She adds: she always dreamt of the day in which her girls will grow up to finish their education and join college; and to Shahd in particular she dreamt of her as an engineer.
The grandmother of Shahd owned a private nursery and that made it easy for Shahd to be with the four and five years old children who were preparing to go to school. Her grandmother says: "She was very smart, therefore, her presence in the kindergarten was natural and suitable. I loved that she would come to us everyday and her presence in kindergarten had achieved that and pleased me so much. She was martyred before completing her third years old. Allah is Sufficient for us, and how fine a trustee He is! I cannot believe that to the extent that, everyday, I look for her in the faces of the children, but cannot see her.”
