| The
Story of Martyrdom:
On December 27,
2008, at 11:45 a.m., life in the Strip was going on as
usual. Mothers were seeing their children off to schools,
other mothers were receiving the children coming back from
schools. Abdel Hameed was one of the pedestrians in the
pathways in the vicinity of the security headquarters; the
first target of the Israeli shelling during its war against
Gaza.
A day before he was
martyred, Abdel Hmeed told his mother he did not want to go
to school but she insisted he did to prepare himself for the
exams of the first semester. He bid his mother farewell
kissing her hands and headed with his brother to school. His
brother took a few steps back to pick up his school bag.
Abdel Hameed kept walking. Their mother heard the bangs of
explosions from time to time which had tremendously shaken
the house. The shelling targeted a police station in Al
Tuffah District. The father hurried out to ask Abdel Hameed
to come back. Abdel Hameed heard his father and moved to go
back, but he never did. A missile from an Israeli plane hit
al Nour Society opposite his house and its shrapnelflew off
everywhere. A shrapnel pierced Abdel hameed’s body which
was hurled away by the severity of the explosion. It was too
difficult for his family to find him. It took them two hours
to finally find him in Al Shefa-a Hospital lying among the
martyrs.
That very day –
one day before his death- he wanted to go with his father to
mosque to pray. His father used to perform his prayers at
home as he got bored of the fiery orations on the pulpits.
Abdel Hameed begged his father saying, “I beg you, father,
not to stop going to mosque. Pay no heed to anybody. Mosques
are Allah’s houses of worship. Hey are not the houses of a
movement or an organization.”
Abdel Hameed’s
countenances reveal innocent childishness. His slim body was
well structured. There was tranquility in his eyes and
agility in his body and kindness and love in his heart. His
mother says, “ He was fond of his father and brothers.”
Although he was only
15 years old, and he had no wide experience, he was
absolutely intelligent and academically a high achiever. His
thoughts were of a 25 year old man. His scientific and
living interests were of a 30 year old one. In brief, he was
a man in the posture of a child.
Abdel Hameed was
known for his love of reading informative books to extend
his knowledge scope and deepen his thoughts. He was also
known for his extraordinary love of the computer. He used to
fix all the electric devices in the house when they broke
down. He kept trying and trying until they start functioning
again.
As regards his
personal wishes, he hoped to finish his education soon and
successfully complete his secondary education in order to
fulfill his life dream of graduating from a university in
the field of computer engineering which he loved. However,
the dreams had been shattered with his loss of life.
