Details of the last hours:

Demolishing homes and killing of families were the regular actions in Palestine since the ruthless Israeli machine has launched its 22-day offensive on Gaza. On January 17 2009, it was El-Babour and Muneer El-Kafarnah families' turn to taste the bitterness of homelessness, evacuation and even death. The Israelis aimed at El-Babour's house located in Beit Hanon turned it into ashes and crushed Muneer El-Kafarnah's house as well. In El-Kafarnah's house, Aseel, one year and forty days, was sleeping on bed like an angel when the pieces of furniture fell down on her due to the strength of the strike. In minutes, Aseel was suffocated and terribly died.

Aseel was born suffering from many health difficulties; on top of which was convulsions. Accordingly, Aseel underwent many surgeries; some of which left some marks on her lips since she has suffered a natural defect called “Balhvp Alornbep”

Aseel’s mother described how much Aseel has suffered. Unlike her older two sisters; Rolla and So`ad, who enjoyed their time playing and having fun with friends, Aseel was confined to her bed all the time since she has suffered from convulsions all the time. However, it was the most difficult time for both Aseel and her mother when the mother tried to breastfed Aseel for it took her more than one hour to get just 20ml of milk. “Every week, we took Aseel to the clinic to let the doctor check her over, perform an operation for her or she attended her massage therapy sessions. There was no hospital in Gaza but we took Aseel to. Aseel’s house was an enclosed area due to Asthma disease; the mother screened the windows with nylon to prevent dust from coming in.

Rolla and Soaad felt bitter-sorrow after their sister’s death. With her eyes full of tears, Rolla said “The Israelis killed my sister”. Rolla loved to hold her sister, Aseel, in her arms, look at her and keep asking her mother: “Mum, when will she know how to smile to me?” When Rolla went to nursery, she insisted to learn how to write Aseel’s name before her own. Now, she never stopped writing Aseel's name over and over. On the other, Soaad went with her mother to Aseel’s grave and with innocence of childhood she wanted to dig it up and restore her sister. Up till now, Soaad is still asking “why cannot we bring Aseel to life again and play together?”
