More Details:
Thirteen-year old Abdu Ar-Rahmaan, tried his best to escape the state of fear and horror imposed on Palestinians by the onslaught on Gaza City. Few hours before the afternoon of January 13, Abdu Ar-Rahmaan met his cousin, Mahmoud, on his way to grandfather’s home. The two cousins walked together along the As-Sikah neighborhood to buy food for lunch. All of sudden an Israeli reconnaissance plane fired its missiles into their tiny bodies. Abdu Ar-Rahmaan and Mahmoud were shot dead just few miles away from home.
The heartbroken mother was in floods of tears mourning her lost child and wondering what her child did to deserve such a ruthless death?!
Other Information:
Abdu Ar-Rahmaan was a handicapped child; he suffered from speech difficulties, and had less mental abilities than his peers.
Abdu Ar-Rahmaan had just finished only six months of the first grade in Shams Foundation for The Special Needs, and was preparing for the next term. The grieving mother says: "I was doing my best to help Abdu Ar-Rahmaan be a good student; I did not want him to feel inferior."
The brokenhearted mother adds: "At the hard times of war, when Israel launched its cruel onslaught on the city, we used to share canned food with his uncle’s family who resorted to our home. I and my sister-in-law used to save food for the kids. Although we did not have plenty of food, Abdu Ar-Rahmaan used to save a piece of his small food portion for me and would tell his brother, Khaleel, to do the same. My sister-in-law would laugh on him for doing so, but I was extremely proud of my little angel".
"Young as he was, Abdu Ar-Rahmaan was pretty aware of her special condition and knew that he may not be able to finish school, so he asked me to teach him a craft instead but I insisted on him finishing school first."
His Dreams:
Thirteen-year old Abdu Ar-Rahmaan dreamed of growing up and getting married. He wished to arrange a big wedding for his whole family. His mother says: "I used to tease him and say that I would find him a bride to marry at the age of eighteen, and he would just laugh."
She adds: "Abdu Ar-Rahmaan understood our difficult financial situation; he was not demanding at all, in fact, he would give up what he needs for his siblings,"
His aunt Sawsan had no children; thirteen-year old Abdu Ar-Rahmaan, young as he was, tried to compensate her. His aunt says: "Dear Abdu Ar-Rahmaan would come over to my place to help me in the kitchen". The mourning aunt tells his mother: "I have more right to mourn him than you; I loved him so much…"
A couple of hours before his death, Abdu Ar-Rahmaan’s mother asked her dutiful son to put the mattress in the sun on their house’s roof, he did what his mother asked and, as if he knew, said to her: "But Mom, this would be your last time to ask me to do so", and so it was…
Thirteen-year old Abdu Ar-Rahmaan went and all what he left were his sweet memories and unfulfilled dreams carved in the hearts and minds of his loving family.
